Callaway United Way Sets Unprecedented Goal

A Quarter of a Million Dollars to Benefit the Community

FULTON, MO – The Board of Directors of the Callaway County United Way met Tuesday, May 13, 2008 and set an unprecedented goal for their 2009 campaign: $250,000.  This amount was based on the amounts requested by the 14 agencies funded by the Callaway County United Way.  The goal for the last two campaigns was set at $220,000.

“The people we serve,” said board president, Cathi Miller Harris, “are facing insurmountable challenges at this time in our history.  The economy, the environment, the housing crisis: all of these create a greater need for the services provided by the agencies we support.  We feel, as a board, that we need to step up and work harder than we ever have before to raise this amount of money to make our community a better one.”

Fourteen community service agencies requested funding from the United Way for 2009.  These include the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts, Callaway County 4-H, Callaway Senior Center, SERVE, Callaway Red Cross, HAVEN/Wiley House, Kingdom Respite Care, Head Start, Kingdom Projects, CARDV, Mid-Mo Legal Services, YMCA and Family Counseling Center.

Callaway County United Way Executive Director, Kathy Richey Liddle, explained how the organization will raise this dollar amount.  “We will do what we have done every year.  We will reach out to the people of this community and ask for their help.  The capacity for caring in Callaway County never fails to amaze us, and although we have our work cut out for us, we have no doubt that the people of our community will amaze and astound us yet again.”

The mission of the Callaway County United Way is to improve, consistently and measurably, the quality of life for all the people of Callaway County by raising and distributing funds, mobilizing community resources, and encouraging innovative solutions to the community's health and human service needs.
