Girl Scouts - Heart of Missouri Council
OUR MISSION : Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
OUR PROGRAM Girl Scouts - Heart of Missouri Council is dedicated to helping all girls in mid-Missouri build character and gain skills they need for success in the world, as children, teen-agers, and as women. In partnership with trained adult volunteers, girls develop values, leadership skills, a commitment toward their community, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. The Heart of Missouri Council is chartered by the Girl Scouts of the USA . Girl Scouting was founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low, and its membership has grown from 18 members in Savannah , Georgia to nearly 4 million members in the United States and around the world.
PROGRAM DELIVERY Girl Scouting is an informal and experiential educational program promoting personal growth and leadership development in girls. The program is grounded in the values of the Girl Scout Promise and Law, and offers girls a safe, supportive environment. Girl Scouts-Heart of Missouri Council delivers program in three unique ways: Girl Scout troops, the most well-known Girl Scout experience; Juliettes, individually registered girls who also participate fully in council activities and projects; and collaborative projects, including joint ventures conducted with local schools, Boys and Girls Clubs, public housing, religious organizations, YMCAs, Missouri Girls Town , Butterfield Youth Services, Rosa Parks Detention Center , and other groups where agencies pool resources to deliver activities in underserved areas. Activities within collaborative projects address major issues affecting today’s girls: personal safety, health and wellness, decision-making, eating disorders, substance abuse prevention, and financial literacy.
