Callaway County Leads the Way in Rx Assistance
A Quarter of a Million Dollars to Benefit the Community
FULTON, MO – The Callaway County United Way announced today that the FamilyWize Prescription program in Callaway County was used more in September than in Cole, Boone and Audrain counties combined. For 2008, Callaway County residents have benefited from this program at the rate of 2-to-1 as compared to surrounding counties.
The FamilyWize Prescription Drug Discount Card enables users to receive discounted pricing on prescription drugs. This is not insurance. Rather, it is a program that offers immediate discounts on prescription drugs at participating pharmacies for individuals that are not covered under a prescription plan. Simply present your card with each prescription from your doctor to the participating pharmacy at the time of purchase to receive your discounts. Savings average about 20%. The card can be used as often as needed, for any prescription and for all family members. There is no income limit, age requirement, eligibility or registration required.
When asked why Callaway County’s statistics are so much higher than in the surrounding counties, Executive Director, Kathy Richey Liddle, replied, “For several reasons. First, all the pharmacies in the county are participating, so it doesn’t matter where you fill your prescriptions – you’ll get the discount. Secondly, I think we’ve done a superb job of getting the information out to the public so that the cards are available in many locations, or they can be copied or printed from the paper, and they WILL save you money.”
In September of this year, 51 claims were made on the card by residents of Callaway County. During the same time, only 33 claims were made in Audrain, Boone and Cole counties combined. Since the Callaway County United Way adopted the FamilyWize program, Callaway County residents have used the card over 300 times, saving approximately $4,000. Audrain, Boone and Cole used the cards approximately 150 times collectively and have saved $3,300.
The mission of the Callaway County United Way is to improve, consistently and measurably, the quality of life for all the people of Callaway County by raising and distributing funds, mobilizing community resources, and encouraging innovative solutions to the community's health and human service needs.
